What is Video Poker?

Video poker differs from casino table poker games because it doesn’t  require dealer interaction or other players like a regular game of poker would need. A random number tool generates the poker card combinations, much like slots. However, unlike slot games, video poker requires that skill and knowledge of hand rankings.

How To Play Video Poker

Video poker plays out with a randomly shuffled deck of 52 cards. Players must make certain decisions that will effect how the game will end up. There are different versions of video poker such as Jacks or Better or Deuces Wild. These can vary a bit with the payout returns for players, but generally they allow for maximum player involvement and control.

How to play video poker games.  Most video poker games are based on a five-card game. Players will notice the there is not a dealer’s hand or other player’s hands that they would need to beat. On every machine, a listing of the payout should be listed. This will tell players which hands yield the lowest winnings and which yield the highest.

The cards are dealt just as they would be at a standard video poker game in an actual casino. The credit a player earns based on winning hands is generally listed somewhere on the screen. The player can cash out when they want to. Usually, the game will have several buttons, one marked “Hold/Cancel”, and another labeled “Deal/Draw, and one marked “Bet Max” While this can vary game to game, these buttons are usually listed on every game.

A player then can start betting and dealing by pushing the buttons. After placing a bet, a player will then see five cards dealt face up. Players then select which cards they want to hold and which cards they want to get rid of. A player then hits the deal button again, discarding the cards they did not hold on to and presenting new ones. This new hand is the final hand. The video poker game then compares the player’s hand with the pay table, deciding if the hand is a win and what credits the player will take home.

Video Poker Strategy

Many players enjoy playing video poker as it does lend that strategy and skill level. Players must know the rankings of different hands and how to play them in order to come out winning.

Winning hands for video poker include a royal flush and a straight flush. Other hands players should know for wins include four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, and jacks or better.

Those hoping to increase their chances of winning can also look for multi-hand games that are offered by most casinos online. In these versions of video poker, players have the chance to play up to 100 hands at once which means a greater quantity of bets are required, but there is also the chance at accumulating winnings quickly.
